ABOUT US
Living Water Ministries began when a small group of friends decided to study the Bible. Some of us had spent years in church; others had tried church, but left because they never quite fit in; and still others never saw the point in the first place. Some had even been told they were not welcome. The thing we all had in common was that we wanted to understand God's Word so we could live our lives according to it.
"A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. "
Matthew 13:3-8 ESV
Jesus told this parable to show his disciples about the different ways people receive the Gospel of Jesus. He compares preaching the Gospel to someone sowing seed.
He goes on to explain the parable:
"When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty."
Matthew 13:19-23 ESV
All seed is designed by God to take root and grow into whatever he meant for it to be. The seed that fell on the path, into the rocky soil, and amongst the thorns was wasted because that ground had not been prepared to receive it.
As Christians we just assume that we are the good soil, but that is not always the case. We can be just as hard-packed, rocky, and thorny as anyone else.
With that in mind, our first goal is to become good soil ourselves, because only then can we help others become good soil, too. We have the privilege of helping others become good soil, and the honor of bringing the seed. And we can all look forward to the joy of the harvest. |
